What is pterostilbene?

Stilbene compound similar to resveratrol from blueberries. Most efficacious at preventing dopamine loss in aged rats. Reversed cognitive deficits. Works synergistically with resveratrol.

Can it mimic caloric restriction?

Yes. Modulates gene expression to simulate caloric restriction without dietary restriction. Reduces inflammatory mediators linked to aging.

Pterostilbene Protocol

Assess cognitive function. Begin pterostilbene. Combine with resveratrol for synergy. Activates longevity genes. Monitor memory (hippocampal correlation). Continue long-term.

  • Cognitive decline (ICD-10: R41.81)
  • Dopamine deficits (R41.3)
  • CVD risk (Z82.49)
  • Stilbene sensitivity
  • Anticoagulants
  • Pregnancy

Cognitive Enhancement in Aged Animals: Research examining resveratrol-like compounds demonstrated pterostilbene was most efficacious at preventing loss of neurotransmitter dopamine from memory centers in aged rats. Supplementation with pterostilbene reversed cognitive behavioral deficits. Study showed working memory function was correlated with levels of pterostilbene in hippocampus—key brain location where memory is processed.

Gene Expression and Caloric Restriction Mimesis: Pterostilbene modulates gene expression to simulate genetic effects of caloric restriction. At gene expression level, pterostilbene dramatically reduces production of inflammatory mediators linked to atherosclerosis, chronic inflammatory diseases, and cognitive decline.

Synergistic Enhancement with Resveratrol: Pterostilbene produces beneficial effects on gene expression that enhance those produced by resveratrol. Together, these stilbene compounds work synergistically to activate longevity genes including SIRT1 pathways more effectively than either compound alone.
